What people are saying about Foreward:

“Pervasive and thought provoking, Foreward guides you through the aftermath of trauma, not as a dispassionate observer, but as a guest to share the most intimate and human experiences with. A 100%, no-bullshit human, experience, Foreward does not hold back from sharing moments we rarely get to hear. Foreward combines multiple narratives into an unapologetic experience of humor and pain that left me yearning for more.”

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to experience a school shooting, you need to listen to the Foreward podcast. It’s written like a play, which means you’ll hear conversations between characters. It’s like watching a television show without being able to see the screen.

Episode 3 is so intense. Let me know what you think.

“The Foreward podcast offers an intimate look behind the curtain into one family’s deeply personal story in the aftermath created by the drama and trauma of a violent school shooting.”

As a nation, not only have we become numb to violence in schools, we have failed to recognize that the actual event is merely the spark that creates a fire that burns in families indefinitely.  With the joys and triumphs of everyday life, the event continues to weave its way through every aspect of a family for the rest of their lives.

In her new audio drama, award winning Director Taylor Fraser invites you into her own family’s experience after the active shooter situation that rocked her hometown in 2006.  When Taylor was 15 years old, her life was forever altered when a man with violent intentions walked into her high school with a gun and a bag of explosives.  By the end of that day, which included a hostage situation, sexual assaults, and the threat of explosions, her entire community was left reeling.  Foreward explores the emotional turbulence that came as a consequence.

"I don't think people realize that this sort of trauma sticks with people the rest of their lives,” Taylor said in an Interview with In the Area podcast.

“It doesn't just affect the people who were in the room. It affects anybody who was within a few degrees of separation from what happened."

Foreward brings together the talents of 67 actors, 2 composers, and an accomplished crew (credits include Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy wins and nominations) to create the 11 episodes that comprise Season 1 of the Foreward podcast. The theme was composed and performed by Emmy award winning pianist Christopher O’Riley,  who hosted NPR’s From the Top for two decades.

Foreward podcast listeners will witness the ongoing journey of Taylor’s family in the days, months, and years after the shooting. Future seasons of Foreward will tell the stories of how trauma informs the next decade after the bomb drops. For now, we start at the beginning.
